At the Studio: Plastic-Free Packaging
So packing materials!
We ship. A LOT! And we wanted to try to do better, so at this point we are proud to say that since 2019 all of our packing materials are 100% recyclable! No more plastic! These materials are not the least expensive out there, but we think they are the best. We are willing to make the investment because we truly believe that over time small gestures DO add up to make a big difference.
What changes have we made? Glad you asked!
Paper Tape
We have switched from the basic plastic packing tape to paper tape. What is paper tape exactly? It’s tape made of paper with a gummed backing. The tape needs to be dispensed from a special dispenser that wets the back to activate the stickiness. Once applied to a box it is super strong and makes the entire box easily recyclable. And best of all no more plastic!
Honeycomb Paper
This is probably the biggest change. We used to use bubble wrap to protect pieces during shipping, but we have switched to this innovative new paper product. It is die cut kraft paper that when it is pulled though a dispenser, expands to wrap and protect our ceramics. It’s really amazing and also beautiful!
Thermal Printed Labels
This little printer prints uses heat instead of toner, so no wasteful empty toner cartridges. The sticker format also allows us to skip the plastic tape again! The label just sticks right on instead of having to attach a paper label with tape. To say we are in love with this little guy is an understatement!
And in addition to these materials, we are continuing to use crumpled kraft paper instead of packing peanuts as box filler.
Well we hope you found this informative! And get in touch if you have any questions at all, we love to share!
